The Lost Legio IX Hispana

Legio IX Hispana was one of the most famous legions of the Roman Empire. Formed in the 1st century BC, the legion served under Julius Caesar and later took part in the Roman conquest of Britain. Legio IX Hispana was stationed in northern Britain and participated in several military campaigns to control the frontier. The legion is surrounded by mystery because historical records about it disappear in the early 2nd century AD. Some historians believe it was destroyed during a conflict in Britain, while others suggest it was transferred elsewhere in the empire.
