Regency Era Dresses

Regency era dresses reflect the elegant and refined fashion of Britain between 1811 and 1820. Influenced by classical Greek and Roman styles, these dresses were known for their high waistlines, flowing silhouettes, and lightweight fabrics such as muslin and silk. The empire line, with the waist just below the bust, created a graceful and natural shape. Dresses were often pale in colour and decorated with delicate embroidery, ribbons, or lace. Sleeves varied from short puffed styles to long gloves worn for formal occasions. Regency fashion emphasised simplicity, comfort, and elegance, reflecting changing social ideals and a move away from the heavy, structured clothing of earlier periods.
