Norman Archer

A Norman archer was a vital component of medieval Norman armies, particularly during the 11th and 12th centuries. Armed with a bow, often made of yew or elm, archers provided ranged support on the battlefield, weakening enemy lines before close combat. They played an important role alongside knights and infantry, offering flexibility and tactical advantage. Norman archers were trained to shoot rapidly and accurately, using simple but effective equipment. Their skills were essential in sieges and open battles alike, helping the Normans establish and maintain control over conquered territories. Archery reflected both military discipline and practical warfare.
