Medieval Jousting
Medieval jousting was one of the most iconic and spectacular martial sports of the Middle Ages, combining skill, courage, and pageantry. Originating in the 12th century, it developed from battlefield training exercises into a highly ritualized form of knightly competition. Two mounted knights charged at each other with lances, aiming to strike their opponent and unseat them, while crowds cheered and noble patrons looked on. More than a test of strength, jousting showcased precision horsemanship, chivalric ideals, and elaborate heraldry. Often held during grand tournaments, it became both a public spectacle and a means for knights to gain honor, reputation, and the favor of royalty.
