Callanish, Ilse of Skye
Callanish Stones are among the most remarkable prehistoric monuments in Scotland. Located on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, this megalithic site was erected around 3000 BCE, predating Stonehenge. The complex consists of a stone circle with rows of standing stones extending outward in a distinctive cross-shaped pattern. Archaeologists believe the site was used for ceremonial, religious, and astronomical purposes. Local legends associate the stones with ancient giants turned to stone. Today, Callanish attracts visitors from around the world and remains an important symbol of Scotland’s prehistoric heritage and ancient cultural traditions.
