Walmer Castle and Gardens

Walmer Castle and Gardens is a historic coastal fortress originally built in the 16th century by order of King Henry VIII to defend England from invasion. Unlike many castles, Walmer later became a comfortable residence for the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, including the Duke of Wellington. Visitors can explore furnished rooms, military displays, and beautifully designed gardens featuring terraces, borders, and woodland walks. Managed by English Heritage, Walmer Castle offers a rich blend of military history, elegant living, and tranquil garden landscapes overlooking the sea.
