St Paul's Monastery

St. Paul’s Monastery, located in Jarrow, Tyne and Wear, is one of the most significant early Christian sites in England. Founded in AD 681, it was part of the twin monastery of Wearmouth-Jarrow, renowned as a center of learning and spirituality in Anglo-Saxon Britain. The monastery is famously associated with the Venerable Bede, the "Father of English History," who spent his life here producing groundbreaking works, including The Ecclesiastical History of the English People. Visitors can explore the remains of the monastic buildings, the 7th-century St. Paul’s Church, and the adjacent Bede Museum, offering a glimpse into the profound scholarly and religious legacy of this historic site.
