St John’s Commandery

St John’s Commandery is a remarkable historic building with over 900 years of history. Originally established as a hospital by the Knights Hospitaller, it later became closely associated with the English Civil War. The building played a key role during the Battle of Worcester in 1651, serving as King Charles II’s headquarters. Today, the Commandery operates as a museum, with rooms furnished to reflect different periods of its past. Visitors can explore medieval halls, Civil War exhibits, and peaceful gardens, gaining a vivid insight into religion, warfare, and everyday life across centuries of English history.
