Skipsea Castle

Skipsea Castle, located in the East Riding of Yorkshire, is a fascinating historic site with over 900 years of history. Built in the 11th century by Drogo de la Beuvrière, the castle was an important Norman motte-and-bailey fortress. While the original structures have not survived, the impressive earthworks, including the large motte (mound) and surrounding ditches, provide a glimpse into its former grandeur. The site offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside and is a peaceful spot for walking and exploration. Skipsea Castle is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and those seeking a connection to Yorkshire’s medieval past.
