Meare Fish House

Meare Fish House is a medieval building located near Glastonbury in Somerset, England. It was associated with Glastonbury Abbey and served as part of the abbey’s management of fish resources from the surrounding wetlands and former Meare Pool. The building reflects the economic organisation of medieval monastic estates, where fisheries were important sources of food, income, and local control. Its stone structure and functional design provide evidence of rural administration and resource management in the Middle Ages. Today, Meare Fish House is significant as a rare surviving example of a monastic fishery building and an important heritage monument.
