Knowlton Church

Knowlton Church is a unique and atmospheric ruined church standing within the earthworks of a prehistoric henge monument. Dating mainly from the medieval period, the church was deliberately built inside the ancient circular enclosure, creating a striking blend of pagan and Christian history. Surrounded by open countryside, the site has a quiet, almost mystical character. Today, only the stone walls remain, but they clearly reveal the church’s former shape and setting. Managed by English Heritage, Knowlton Church attracts walkers, photographers, and history enthusiasts seeking an unusual and thought-provoking historic landscape.
