Howk Bobbin Mill
Howk Bobbin Mill is a well-preserved example of a 19th-century industrial bobbin mill set in the Lake District countryside. The mill was used to produce wooden bobbins for the Lancashire textile industry, using water-powered machinery driven by a nearby stream. Inside, original equipment and working mechanisms show how timber was processed into finished products. Managed by English Heritage, Howk Bobbin Mill offers an authentic insight into early industrial technology and rural manufacturing. Surrounded by woodland, it provides a peaceful yet informative visit for history enthusiasts, families, and anyone interested in Britain’s industrial heritage.
