Deal Castle

Deal Castle is a well-preserved Tudor artillery fortress built by order of King Henry VIII in the 16th century. Located on the seafront, it was designed to defend the English coast from potential invasion. The castle’s unique circular layout, thick stone walls, and low profile made it highly effective for cannon fire. Today, visitors can explore its passages, chambers, and ramparts while learning about its military history. Managed by English Heritage, Deal Castle offers sea views, engaging displays, and a fascinating insight into Tudor coastal defence.
